There is a lot to say about a brand name and the images and thoughts it may represent. But what about the sound? What does the tone does the brand name Nike suggest for example?
According to researchers the sounds a,ch,j,k,o,p,t,u seem harder and more masculine than do e,i,l,m,n,ng,sh,s.
The sounds f,s,v,z are generally associated with speed more than sounds such as b,d,l,m,p,t.
Some experts also suggest that the letters q,f,u,x,z tend to evoke negative feelings whilst the letters a,b,m,s,t are reported to evoke very positive feelings.
Why does this really matter? Well if you plan to take a small, local business and market it nationally or internationally then a whole bunch of things relating to brand image becomes more and more relevant. The sound of a brand name is one part of the overall brand ‘package’. Something to think about.
